Masks

Updated May 1, 2023

After much discussion with public health and analysis of subvariants, the university’s Senior Leadership Team has decided to pause the mask directive. Beginning Monday, May 1, mask wearing inside university buildings will no longer be mandatory; however, we strongly encourage our campus community to wear masks while in crowded indoor spaces.

We want to thank the entire Ontario Tech community for masking for more than three years. We have reduced transmission and provided a safer space while COVID-19 numbers were significant. Everyone should be proud of what we accomplished collectively and how that reduced the spread for each of us and our connected loved ones.

Wearing or not wearing a mask is a personal choice and we ask everyone to be considerate and kind to one another.

We will continue to monitor public-health conditions in Durham Region and if needed, we will not hesitate to reinstate the mask directive at any time.

The safety of our campus community remains our top priority and it’s a team effort. You can help us by:

  • Wearing a mask in crowded spaces such as busy hallways and large classrooms.
  • Staying home if you’re feeling unwell, washing your hands often and covering your mouth when sneezing or coughing.
  • Remaining up-to-date on vaccinations and securing the maximum number of doses available to you, when eligible.

Thank you for your continued efforts and support throughout the pandemic.
